I rarely pay much attention to the cartoons Lacy watches in the afternoon before dinner. However, today I somehow found myself totally immersed in Dora the Explorer with Lacy."Swiper, no swiping" we yelled together in unison!
During part of Dora's adventure to Abuela's casa, the monkey sidekick dropped a basket of muffins over the side of a bridge and they fell far below. Dora asked the viewers what they should do. My response?
"Throw the monkey over the side of the bridge and make him climb back up. It's his fault it fell and he needs to suffer the consequences of his actions." (a common refrain around here... well, not the throwing the monkey over the edge part, just the consequence of your actions part).
Lacy, not happy with my proclamation responded, "No mom, they need to use a fishing pole to reach down and make it come back up. It's NOT the monkey's fault, don't blame him!"
You would not believe how they got that basket of muffins back up.
Yup, a freaking fishing pole.
My bad.
Stupid monkey.

Watching Oswald this evening I said to Trevor, as Oswald was flying through space in a hot air ballon to rescue Katrina who had been caught on a star, "Isn't that a little far fetched?" As if a giant blue octopus in a balloon with a hot dog sidekick was totally normal! Wow, what have our kids done to our intelligence?
