Within seconds she managed to demolish the top and toss the rest back on the plate, asking for another.
My first response was to make her eat the rest of the donut before we even CONSIDERED the option of another.
But then I thought about it... and I realized that what we had before us was the Grampy Donut. It was exactly the way she would have annihilated any piece of sweet, fried, frosted dough that Grampy happened to bring over in that oh-so-obvious pink box Lacy can now spot a mile away!
Not just a pile of half-eaten donut, but a piece of a relationship never to be realized in another life as Lacy G. But she's not Lacy G anymore. She's an Isley. And she is a lucky little girl who now has a Grampy Donut.
My prayer for her is that she wont struggle with the biological family that will never be, but rather, embrace whole-heartedly the Grace that gave her a new name, a new life.
Enjoy your donut, kiddo.
